It’s a middling size week this week, thankfully -

Blackest Night#7 – This has been rolling along at a nice clip. I still doubt that Nekron is the big bad – and although this cover would seem to suggest a bigger power, I kind of hope that’s not the big reveal at the end of this issue. I mean, there has to be a big reveal, right? Because otherwise this has been a by-the-numbers crossover. Entertaining but hardly groundbreaking.

Flash: Rebirth #6 – Well thank Christ that’s over. To have the return of the fastest man alive being one of the slowest produced books this side of an All Star book (or anything written by Warren Ellis) is quite impressive. Even more impressive is the fact that the most interesting things in the series have happened to characters other than Barry Allen. Kid Flash, Wally West, Liberty Belle, Max Mercury – all had more interesting developments than Barry. Hell, all of the are more interesting than Barry.

Superman #697 – Mon-El has certainly become a pretty interesting character in the last year, and I like the friendship that’s been struck up with Superboy over the past few months. Also, this cover?

Awesome.

Teen Titans #80 – More shenanigans in Dakota as Static takes the spotlight. This book has become to me what X-Men once was – something you stick with through the crap because you always hope there’s something better coming down the line.

Amazing Spider-Man #622 – Two stories; one focusing on Flash Thompson and his new life now that he’s out of the army and one with Spidey taking on Morbius as part of the gauntlet. Presumably because vampires are cool these days.

Avengers The Initiative #33 – An excellent book, and one that’s really done amazing things spotlighting the has-beens, also-rans and never-weres of the MU. Taskmaster, Constrictor and Diamondback are the current stars – and somehow I don’t think all three will get a happy ending in the midst of Siege.

Deadpool & Cable Ultimate Collection Book 1 TP – Alright, I’m not picking this up since I have the singles on the other side of the Atlantic, but I recommend you do get it – because it’s a great, great book. Nicieza and Zircher pull out all the stops for comics’ number one dysfunctional buddies.

Deadpool #20 – Didn’t #19 just come out last week? Not that it feels like a complete week without a Deadpool book these days

Fantastic Four #576 – Hickman’s work is still hit and miss for me. I feel he gets the characters and has a clear idea of what the book should be about, but I think he tries too hard, throwing everything into the blender and running through it all too quickly. Last issue’s discovery of new underworld cities was rushed to an unsatisfying conclusion – although I guess its better than being stretched out too long.

New Avengers #62 – And speaking of…I’m ready for this not-quite-a-Siege-tie-in to be done and over at this point.

EDIT: According The Source (and I guess they would know), the so-bad-it’s-good Justice League: Cry For Justice comes to an end with #7. I’ll be picking it up just so I can make fun of it!
