It seems to me that Marvel are screwing with me.
I’ve dropped X-Men in favor of trades, something that would have been unthinkable to me a few years ago and, with the end of Siege and the dawning of the Heroic Age, I was going to jump ship on all the Avengers books too – again, in favor of trades.
While I’m still planning to do this, Marvel seem intent on luring me back to the comic store week to week. It started with Ben Grimm.
The Thing – probably my second favorite Marvel character (or at least Marvel superhero) is on the Avengers, a team that has always been one of my favorites. I enjoyed his (very) brief stint on the West Coast Avengers (yet another firm favorite) back in the early days of that team, loved Marvel Two-In-One and his solo series – so having him on this team is one hell of a way to make me want to carry on picking up the New Avengers.
But no, that wasn’t enough.
They also announced Young Allies by Sean McKeever. Normally this wouldn’t be a huge deal for me, but two of the members are former member of the New Warriors Firestar (favorite team book ever, just in case you missed that) and Gravity (McKeever’s Gravity mini-series made me a fan of the character for life).
Oh yes, the bastards.
Jim McCann has a Hawkeye & Mockingbird ongoing coming March. So that would be my third favorite Marvel hero and his wife.
Goddammit.
What else have you got up your sleeve, Marvel?
A New Warriors relaunch?
The return of Marvel Team-Up?
A back-in-continuity Power Pack?
An ongoing Cloak & Dagger?
What, Marvel, what?

Yes, it does seem like a good time to be a Marvel fan right now. Unless one is still bitter about One More Day, but that’s another story.
Let it go, Brian. Let it go.
A Quasar ongoing, starring the consciousness of Wendell Vaughan in Rick Jones’ body, written by the ghost of Mark Gruenwald and drawn by Mark Bagley.
That’s…unlikely.
But apparently we will be getting more Quasar (or possibly a Realm-of-Kings-possessed-dark-Quasar) in that whole Thanos thingummy that’s out soon.
I hope your still reading Fantastic Four, I think you’ll be seeing some Power Pack in that book. Plus the FF has just been (pardon the term)fantastic lately regardless.
I am as that’s one of the very few books that will have to be pried from my cold, dead, fingers but Hickman’s not impressing me as much as he was a few issues ago.
I believe there’s a post waiting to happen about that…
Yes! Yes Mike! Quasar ongoing please!!
Only…I like Wendell in his own body. With the longish hipster blond hair, if it’s not too much to ask.
New Warriors relaunch would be amazing—maybe some Vance Astro(vik), Justice v. Guardians of the Galaxy, clarification for once. Or Nova falling in love with Namora (is that weird? ‘Nita was her clone. Plus she was also mackin’ on her cousin recently so…) Wouldnt mind Jubilee joining the team, but the other new punks can go be depowered elsewhere. As of right now, Hairball’s getting more page time than most of them combined. (Yes, I spend my money on Pet Avengers.)
Definitely having a lot of love for Marvel these days—thanks a lot to the DnA Cosmic Stories, more of which is coming soon. As for DC, I had to actually think for a second to remember whether or not Blackest Night had ended yet.
Hated McKeever on Teen Titans, but maybe ill give Allies a shot. Thought the Reunion was flat, but a fan of Clint so another benefit-of-the-doubt situation there. This comment was not intended to be so long, sorry. If only someone at work would talk comics with me, I wouldn’t have all this pent up geekotry.
Nova and Namora would be weird. And wrong on so many levels. But that doesn’t seem to stop those Atlanteans!
If there’s anyone that could get back to buying the Avengers regularly, it would be Benjamin J Grimm. Sign me up!
How about a three issue DARKSTAR AND THE WINTER GUARD mini?
[...] Speedball is still a messed up self-harming bondage semi-amnesiac, Firestar is off with that new Young Allies group, Nova’s way ahead of everyone in terms of powerset (and apparently going to be either [...]
