Joss Whedon to direct The Avengers

Deadline is reporting that Joss Whedon is in final negotiations to direct Marvel’s The Avengers movie.

Given that Cap (Chris Evans), Iron Man (Robert Downey Jr), Thor (Chris Hemsworth) and Nick Fury (Samuel L Jackson) are already cast, and it seems likely that Black Widow (Scarlett Johansson) and Bruce Banner (Ed Norton) may turn up in some capacity – not to mention the possibility of the Abomination (Tim Roth) and General Ross (William Hurt) putting in an appearance, can we just go ahead and cast some of Whedon’s regular gang as the other Avengers?

I mean, it should keep costs down a bit…

Like…Alan Tudyk?

Summer Glau?

Enver Gjokaj?

Please?

Updated with another suggestion that I particularly liked…Dichen Lachman.

You know if there’s a way to get Fran Kranz in there…

    TUDYK! as Pym is spot-on. Easily trumps my earlier idea of J. Krasinski. Allow me to add a couple more suggestions:

    * Amy Acker or Dichen Lachman as Janet Van Dyne
    * Tahmoh Penikett as Hawkeye
    * Harry Lennix as Henry Gyrich (hey, if Nick Fury can be black in this continuity …)

      Not too keen on Penikett as Hawkeye though. Too stoic.

        Hm. “Stoic.” I see where you’re coming from, but ironically that might’ve made him a better Cap – and Chris Evans as Hawkeye would’ve made a perfect foil for him.

      If Rick Jones is in this movie, he’d better be killed in the opening sequence by the Winter Soldier (forgot that Sebastian Stan is signed to multiple movies as Bucky!)

    Penikett is too straight-laced to be Hawkeye. I think that Fran Kranz could be an interesting Hawkeye and that Nathan Fillion is a shoe-in for that role.

    But isn’t the rumor mill for Clint Barton still grinding out Jeremy Renner’s name (another Whedon alum)?

      I think the Jeremy Renner thing died out before the Oscars – although I only heard about it after.

      You know, I like Kranz as Hawkeye, though. Fillion’s just a tad too old for it.

      Also, he’s so obviously going to play Turner D Century…
