Hot Fuzz Friday

I make no pretense at understanding what this is for, or who the three people in red t-shirts are, but I don’t think you really need to know. All you need to know is that you’re about to surrender six minutes of your life to the most absurd collection of celebrities, has-beens, almost-weres and Dolph Lundgrens from both sides of the Atlantic singing ‘Let it Be’ – or at least lip-synching to it.

Even the late Leslie Nielsen makes an appearance.

As a Brit, it was especially gratifying to see Bergerac, Rene from ‘Allo, ‘Allo, Right Said Fred, Paul McKenna, and a few others pop in there.

But wait there’s more…because this isn’t the first time they’ve done this…

Dear God, who are these people?!?

Occasionally a concept so obvious comes along that you wonder why it hasn’t been done before.

Case in point: put Abraham Lincoln’s brain into a robot designed by Thomas Edison.

And make Andrew Jackson a zombie.

And then put them on a collision course.

That’s the brain-smackingly awesome concept behind Robot Lincoln and Zombie Jackson by Jeff Wilson and Craig Garrett.

Funny, well scripted and with great art, the comic is a work in progress – there are 9 pages up at the moment, and they’re well worth your time to check out!

Yep, Robot Lincoln and Zombie Jackson is your Friday Awesome!

Please vote for the Pocket Paradox, who is applying for membership of the Evil League of Evil.

The Pocket Paradox is not to be confused with Stanley who applied for the Real World Sydney (he was unsuccesful).

However, Stanley has not given up. He’s a positive fellow who isn’t afraid to make new friends.

And he can sing!!! Although given his choice of song I question his connection to the Pocket Paradox…

In fact, Stanley and the Pocket Paradox appear to have forged some kind of partnership…

We can only imagine where this will end up…

You need Proof!

June 27, 2008 by
Proof #9 hit the stands this week – bringing with it my favorite cover of the week – and it occurred to me this morning that I really should do an entry on it.
It stars Proof, a Bigfoot, as an agent of ‘The Lodge’ – an organization which investigates cryptoids; essentially mythical monsters and creatures who aren’t so mythical. When the series started my first thought was that it was ‘what if Mulder was a Bigfoot?’ and to be fair the first arc pretty much suggested that’s what the book was about to me.
Sure, we were introduced to Proof’s new partner Ginger and a few other cast characters (like Sherrif Elvis, the Chupacabra who wears his mother’s skin and a few others) but it felt like an X-Files-ish set up.
The next few issues suggested more. First out we had an issue entirely devoid of the title character as we explored the Lodge more, then it was a three issue arc introducing one of the series big villains, bent on eating Proof – and Proof went more than a little animalistic.

This current issue had Proof taking Elvis shopping for the bulk of the issue but it revealed more about his character than anything previously. Proof dressing well and having good manners is more than a gimmick; they’re defining qualities of his character – and were first introduced to him by Thomas Jefferson.
Yep, Proof’s old – and he’s the only Bigfoot he’s ever known.
I’ve heard that a few people think that this borrows a little too much from Hellboy and perhaps it does but as someone who’s never read that, I wouldn’t know – but I do know that everything borrows from something so I never let that bother me too much.

Proof is much more than I thought it was, and each issue and arc reveals more – I think that this is probably becoming one of the more rewarding books to reread each month. There’s a lot of planning going into this, as writer Alex Grecian’s text pieces at the back reveal. Grecian and artist Riley Rossmo make for a great team and I simply can’t recommend this book highly enough.

Go buy Proof #9. It’s got a great cover and although it touches on other events, it’s a nice stand alone issue – or pick up the trade of the first arc, or maybe see if you can win a copy over at Comic Addiction. At the very least pick up Image’s Monster Pile Up coming in August to try out a Proof short story…see if you like it.

Proof‘s your Friday Awesome!

Good vs Awesome

June 20, 2008 by

Last week Melissa did a post on what was good as opposed what’s awesome.

It’s worth pointing out that often the amount of awesome in anyone thing is inversely proportionate to the amount of good. Case in point:

Good

Awesome

Good

Awesome

Good

Awesome

See how this works?

As today has unexpectedly turned into a Lost post-a-palooza, I’ll finish off with one of the nicer moments from the season finale.

One that didn’t involve exploding freighters, hails of gunfire or severe amounts of stabbing.
And also, because this will please the better half.
