The good folk at Alert Nerd challenged the comics blogosphere to talk about their Scott and Jean a couple of weeks ago…and everyone was supposed to talk about it yesterday. And there were a lot – a lot! – of great posts.
Partly because I kind of forgot, but partly because I don’t think I have a Scott and Jean. I don’t have something sacred that I just can’t discuss rationally.
I mean, you didn’t like the ending of BSG? Your prerogative, even if it means you’re wrong.
You didn’t like OMD? Me either. But the stuff that’s come after it is the best that Spider-Man has been in ten years, if not more.
You hate that Clark and Lois got married? Well, you’re a moron that can’t accept change and wants everything to be like it was when you were a kid, but I guess I can’t stop you from bitching.
You don’t like Star Trek Deep Space Nine, you don’t get that it’s the best that Star Trek ever was? Fine, your loss.
You hate that Cordelia and Conner slept together? Me too, but I’m not going to get worked up about it.
You think that Dr Pulaski was better than Dr Crusher? Okay, you’re kind of weird – but she did have a certain Bones-esque quality to her.
You’re going to cry and whine about how George Lucas raped your childhood with the last Star Wars and Indiana Jones movies? Grow up, asshole, nobody made you watch them.
You hate what DC editorial did to Cassandra Cain? Me too – but it was more the execution than the edict.
So maybe I don’t have a sacred cow. Maybe I’ve just come around to accepting change. Maybe I know that eventually, everything in comics gets reversed, and different people read or see things differently so there are always going to be differences of opinion. I’m not going to get worked up about that.
So. No Scott and Jean for me.
Unless…
..unless you’re going to say something against New Warriors.
Because if you’re going to diss on the original New Warriors under Fabian Nicieza, if you’re not going to see that at the very least the first two years are as close to a perfect super-hero book as you’re going to get…
In fact if you’re going to take shots at anything in those first four or five years of their book…
…yep, even Night Thrasher on his stupid-ass skateboard..
…you do that and it is on.

From the Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull Gentle Giant preview crate from the NYCC…don’t know about you but that looks kinda alien-ish to me…
I don’t often run through the Dark Horse solicits but there were a few things that caught my eye so I figured why not?
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER #16
I ran the Jo Chen cover a while ago (the one with the not so surprise guest star) but this is the first time I’ve seen the Georges Jeanty cover – who are these guys on the left? Am I supposed to know? Nice to see Karl Moline back for the not so surprise guest star, too…
BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER “CONVERSATIONS WITH DEAD PEOPLE” BOARD
I love this solicit: “Game board for entertainment purposes only.” And the crazy people protest starts in 3…2…1…
CONAN THE CIMMERIAN #1 I’ve been a Conan follower since the new series began 4 or 5 years ago – and this is the perfect jumping off point for me. My only issue with following the trades from now on is that often with Dark Horse, the trades are more expensive than the single issues. I don’t quite understand that.
This is a book that I have heard a lot of good things about but have yet to pick up. If anyone has any advice yay or nay, let me know!
Another book that I’ve heard good stuff about but never picked up. Is it worth it? Trades or singles? Is there a good jumping on point?
Humor comics have never quite worked for me but again I’ve heard so many good things about it – maybe I should take a look?
Good grief, this is one of those posts that just begs for a beating. I admit it – I’ve never read Hellboy in any form. I did kind of like the first movie, and I’ll probably watch the second but…is the comic any good? Is there a good jumping on point?
Dark Horse really seems to do well with their licensed stuff, don’t they? Haven’t seen a new Indy comic in what, ten years? Chances are I’ll at the very least take a look at it.
Lots of great creators contributing to this – but we already saw this free on MySpace, right? Now we’re supposed to pay for it? I’ll be interested to see how much this sells – should be interesting to see how it affects the Zuda model too.
So…Yankee Girl is some kind of cross between Wonder Woman and Miss America? Only with her boobs falling out?
Like I said, I’m a Conan fan – these Essential style reprints any good?
Here’s the thing – I said I was going to switch to trades for the Star Wars books, but they’re actually slightly more expensive than the single issues. What’s the deal with that??!
One of the more enjoyable SW books right now – John Ostrander really is knocking this out of the park.
Vector hits the original trilogy era – and apparently Han and Chewie may finally show up in the book!
So…this is the Dark Horse comic adaptation of the Capcom game of the Acclaim property of the old Valiant comic, huh?
Man, I miss Acclaim. Although I realize that there are only a few of us out there…

The IndianaJones.Com site has also received a makeover and added some great videos, nifty desktops to it – and yes, there’s confirmation that an old lady friend of Jones’ will be making an appearance (and she’s looking pretty good – seems the years haven’t left the same mileage on her as on Jones himself).
So…maybe John Hurt isn’t Abner Ravenwood after all? Maybe the only Abner Ravenwood in the movie is Shia LaBoeuf?
And there’s a release date: Memorial Day 2008. Start your timers!

Continue Reading »Variety is reporting that screenwriter David Koepp has been tapped to write Spider-Man 4, scheduled for a 2009 or 2010 release. This would involve renegotiatin contracts with all of the principles, including Sam Raimi.
Persnoally (and obviously not having seen the upcoming Spider-Man 3 yet) I’d say this is a no-brainer – providing Raimi is onboard. I think the franchise could weather all manners of cast changes as long as Raimi remains in the director’s chair. He just has a great vision of what Spider-Man should be, as well as what he is.
Hell, I wouldn’t mind a Raimi-penned mini either, but that might just be me.
Koepp, interestingly, has also finished the finally-greenlighted draft of the fourth Indiana Jones flick as well – and just yesterday ‘retired’ Sean Connery confirmed that he is considering reprising the role of Henry Jones, Sr, in the new film.
As long as neither of these films turn out to be Jaws 4: The Revenge, I’ll be happy!
