Everyone else is talking about it so why not…
It’s a nice piece – hell, its by Adam Hughes so its bound to be – but it was only after looking at it for a couple of minutes that I actually got who everyone was – Catwoman, Oracle, Zatanna, Black Canary, Power Girl, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Vixen, Batwoman, Poison Ivy and Harley Quinn, right?
So no Barda? No Batgirl? No Wonder Girl? No Donna Troy?
More importantly, no goddamn Lois Lane*? You’re telling me that someone out there thought to put together a picture of women of the DCU without including the oldest one there is, and probably the most well known?
And is it just me or is the fact that the lesbian Kathy Kane (Batwoman) is wearing trousers and straddling a chair butchly insanely funny?
*I’m taking up a cause here – from now on its goddamn Lois Lane. Hey, if its good enough for Batman…

Got to say, this looks nice and may actually be a DVD purchase that I make, unlike all the other animated stuff that DC and Marvel have put out over the last few years.
I have high hopes – although that only means that they’re that much easier to shatter.
The rest of the pics are here.

In honor of the day of horrors, I thought I’d run down a few of comic-doms most horrifying characters and situations!
First up: Cir-El!
Yep, what you want to do is to create a new Supergirl just as you cancel a popular Supergirl title and banish that version into limbo forever.
Then what you want to do is to link this new Supergirl into an insidious plot by Brainiac-13 to conquer the world through coffee! Yes, coffee! (Actually, literally ‘Yes’ coffee!)
Ah, Cir-El, the mere thought of you makes us shudder…

Over on CBR, there’s a poll about who Superman should be with, offering the options of Lois, Lana, Other or No-one.
I voted for Lois Lane, So what about Spider-Man and his marriage to Mary Jane – which looks like it might be undone through mystical means in the upcoming One More Day ?
Personally I think the Spidey-MJ marriage is a great idea because it stabilizes his life and provides him with solace. Spider-Man is the original hard-luck hero and without Mary Jane he has no-one to turn to (I don’t count Aunt May because she’s obviously been dead since Amazing Spider-Man #400 – now let us never speak of it again).
Spidey isn’t looking for acceptance the way Superman is; he’s just trying to do the right thing and make up for a mistake he made early in his career. As such, the marriage doesn’t take anything away from the character – although I understand that many writers think it limits the stories that can be told, I don’t agree.
I like the marriage; I like that Peter and MJ are there to support each other.
So I find myself wondering why I’m more concerned over the prospect of a dead Lois Lane (see Countdown II teaser) than I am over a mystic nullification of Spider-Man’s marriage.
And I think it all comes down to destiny.
At the end of the day, although I do like Peter and MJ together, I don’t think that Peter is destined to be with Mary Jane the way that Clark is destined to be with Lois. I think that Peter needs someone but I’m coming round to the idea that perhaps that person needn’t be Mary Jane – after all, before he married her, there were Betty, Gwen and Felicia to name a few.
But for Clark? Well, Lana, I suppose – but they were never really a couple in the current continuity and a few ‘almosts’ like Lori Lemaris and Wonder Woman. But Lois Lane is more a part of Superman’s mythos than any of them – and more than MJ is a part of Spider-Man’s, movies be damned.
So I guess I’ll have to stay tuned and cross my fingers – I don’t really want either marriage to end in any way but at the moment I’m kind of resigned to Peter and MJ’s finishing. But Lois and Clark – if there’s anything short of a full, clean DCU reboot that ends that, I’m done.

The lustful look on young Supergirl’s face as she hugs her ‘Dad’ and wants to go and perform ‘Super-feats’?
His hand position, as though it’s just about to slide down a little?
The paper, poised to be raised to block any offensive, er, bulges?
The long-suffering Lois’ look of betrayal as she contemplates this Super-union of ickyness?
The fact that Lois can tell they’re ‘excited’ but she’s happy because she loves them both?
No – it’s the fact that she’s KNITTING!! Because, clearly, that’s ALL she’s good for!
People – this is why we need a good Lois Lane book - to banish the memory of this one for all eternity!
Now can we have a Showcase collection, please?
Continue Reading »If there’s one supporting character in the DCU who deserves their own book, it’s Lois Lane.
And I’m not talking about a Silver-Age, ‘How will I win that big galoot’s heart?’ kind of book…although those have their place (mainly in Showcases).
No, I’m talking about a tough as nails reporter willing to go the distance to get a story.
Need someone in the middle of a war zone? Send Lois.
Need someone to go undercover in a crime family? Send Lois.
Need someone to interview the inmates at Arkham Asylum? Send Lois.
Ten reasons why the book would rock:
10. No Superman – or at least very little. Have Clark as support, but don’t rely too much on his character. Leaving the cape out lets the book stay a little grounded, even when dealing with the fantastic.
9. Connections – Despite little Super-presence, Lois wouldn’t be afraid to use the contacts she’d made through him – Bruce Wayne, Wonder Woman, Black Canary – anyone who knows Clark’s identity is a resource to be used to get a story.
8. The Cast – Expand the cast – sure, you’ve got Jimmy and Perry but when was the last time you saw any of the rest of the old Superman supporting cast – Lois’ mother, Ron Troupe, Lucy, Cat Grant…and then there’s the potential for new members: the intern with a crush, the informant out for himself, the crooked cop…
7. World Traveller – Lois doesn’t stay in Metropolis – she follows the story, no matter how far. Need a correspondent on a brewing crisis in Skartarsis? She’s your guy.
6. Going it alone – You know how Jimmy has a signal watch? Lois has a signal blocker. Superman spends way too much time protecting her – she doesn’t need him busting in at the first sign of trouble, so she clicks the watch on and – voila! – she’s off the radar. Think of it as Hal leaving his ring behind when he flies.
5. Tough Girl - Lois is a military brat – no civilian knows their way around the red tape like she does. She’s got contacts so deep in the Pentagon that they make Deep Throat look like an amateur. Not to mention she’s no slouch at hand-to hand when she needs to be.
4. Daddy issues – Sam’s not dead – it’s been pretty broadly hinted in the past that Sam Lane isn’t dead, so make that the book’s first year – Lois finds hints her father’s alive. Why has he gone underground? Why is he still there even though Luthor’s out of office? Is it connected to Checkmate? How far will Lois go to find her dad?
3. The shady side of the street - Super-villains love Lois, but not as bait or ransom-fodder – most know Superman has a thing for her and they’re not that stupid. They know that if something goes wrong, she’ s an objective, honest reporter. Captain Cold needs to let the public know that the Rogues are out of his control and killing civvies? It’s going to be Lois he feeds the story to.
2. Stalker from afar - Lex Luthor really loves her. Like crazy, psychotic loves her. She’s married and yet everytime she shows up, its not Clark that shows up, its Superman – so he thinks she’s open to affairs. When he decides to shift attention from the Kryptonian to his lady love, who’s going to stop him?
1. Just Because – She’s Lois Lane, goddamit. And she deserves to have a starring role.
