The more I see of Zack Snyder’s Sucker Punch the more intrigued I am. And by intrigued, I mean confused; it’s not often that a big mainstream flick uses imagery in quite so blatantly an exploitative way.
Case in point; Vanessa Hudgens likes it rough, apparently -

I really don’t know what to make of this movie. On paper it sounds terrible, but if there’s one thing that Snyder can be relied on to deliver, it’s incredible visuals.
And attractive young women in skimpy outfits. There’s that too…

Continue Reading »I confess I don’t know much about Sucker Punch, but according to Rope of Silicon:
Set in the 1950s, Sucker Punch follows Babydoll who is confined to a mental institution by her stepfather, who intends to have her lobotomized in five days. While there, she imagines an alternative reality to hide her from the pain, and in that world, she begins planning her escape, needing to steal five objects to help get her out before she is deflowered by a vile man. Along with Browning the film stars Vanessa Hudgens, Abbie Cornish, Jamie Chung, Jena Malone, Carla Gugino and Jon Hamm.
So…kind of like One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest meets Pan’s Labyrinth then?
Well both of those are excellent movies, so this could be really…Zack Snyder?
Oh.
Then I guess it’ll be an overblown CGI slow-motion-fest, then. And, judging from the gallery of characters, with just a bit of the spirit of sexploitation thrown in. Click on the pics to embiggen.
